Inter Milan’s Serie A winning celebrations are put on hold for the time being as Roma beat league leaders 3-1. After being thrashed by Manchester United 7-1 in UEFA Champions League quarterfinal, this victory will give some sort of confidence and self-belief to Roma in retaining second position in the league.
Interestingly, this is the first defeat of the season for Inter Milan in Serie A. Coming to the match, Roma was the better side all-through but the finishing touch from their strikers was missing until the dying moment of the game. Simone Perrotta gave Roma the lead in the opening minutes of the second-half but Inter leveled almost immediately after a controversial penalty being awarded to Inter.
Though, replay clearly suggested that Brazilian striker Adriano had dived but referee was adamant with his decision. Marco Materazzi scored the penalty with utmost ease. From that moment onwards, match seemed destined for a 1-1 draw but late strikes first from Totti and then the injury time goal from Cassetti ended the unbeaten streak of Inter Milan.
